MagicJack Telephone Service

MagicJack Works!!

Simply put, MagicJack works!

If you have a DSL or Cable Internet connection, you can save a ton of money with this little device! I purchased mine in June 2008, and I can tell you I’ve saved, at a minimum, $600.00 in telephone and long distance charges. I can’t tell you how wonderful it felt to call AT&T and say, “discontinue this telephone service”. When they asked me why, I told them, “because I don’t need it anymore, Whewww.” We use cable for our internet, but even if you use DSL for internet access you can still save money by dropping the phone service.

I paid $49.95 for the MagicJack device, and $19.95 for 1 full year of service; which includes unlimited long distance, even to Canada! There’s a cute little interface that sits in your system tray, and it pops up when you make or receive a call. Also included are all those extra features we’re used to paying extra for, like: caller ID, 3 way calling, call waiting, AND my most favorite feature, other than the savings, voice mail. Callers can leave a voice mail message even if the MagicJack isn’t turned on. You can also have an email sent to notify you of new voice mail messages. You’ll actually receive the message as an attachment in .wav format so you can listen to it in Windows Media Player or any wave player. If you prefer you can also call in to check your messages. It also has a contacts list and you can use a regular telephone with it.

I just love finding something that actually does what it promises, and MagicJack does!

Just a comment on the Magic Jack…

We’ve had ours for about 5 months or so now and I have to say that I HATE IT! (Granted the savings is nice!) I don’t know whether it’s from where I’m on the computer a lot or not, however when I’m on the phone, I hear beeps, the line skips and makes it sound like people are stuttering, and I’ve had more dropped calls on this than on my old Verizon cell phone! (I don’t like Verizon either.) When the economy improves, I for one, will be going back to regular home phone service. I get so frustrated with the Magic Jack that sometimes I want to scream. Some other things it does are:

*When trying to dial out, it will give you another dial tone, like you didn’t even dial a number,

*There are some phone numbers that I cannot call… period.

*The voicemail feature was nice at first, however now I cannot even access it for some reason. It tells me that I have a new voicemail and then when I go to listen to it, it says there are no messages.

Well, people can make up their minds about this themselves, that’s just my two cents worth.

Oh wow! I am sorry you’re having problems with it.

You may want to have a look at this. http://www.magicjacksupport.com/

When we first got ours it did some of the things you’re talking about. I thought maybe I just didn’t know what I was doing, but we downloaded a “fix”, that we found through this forum, and it hasn’t been a problem since.
